Yo, there are other Harold's that do wheat bread too. The one on 70-something and Stony Island has home pride butter top wheat bread. I'm not defending the Wicker Park location at all. Just letting you know. The only way it would have been cool to have Harold's in WP is if it had been there since the 90s when it would make sense to have a one there. Back when they would have still needed the bullet proof lazy susan. Man, those were the good old days. I have to say, it's convenient for me when I go visit home though and visit friends and go to shows...
Once again...Another opportunity to make the African american community look like a war zone. The media is often guilty of portraying our community as a war zone to the public. I only wish that the African american community could receive the same treatment as our counterparts. Who says that you can't get stuck up or robbed in wicker park? He'll probably install the bullet proof glass once all the "stick up" men read the article and realize it's now ready for the pickings.
Just discovered they're putting one in St. Louis too... As an HP exile to the Lou, I can't tell you how exciting it is that I won't have to drive 5 hours anymore for my half salt 'n pepper. They better not serve any damn wheat bread, though. Wonder Bread is the only REAL bread.
Also, check out this week's Reader for two articles on the Shack.
For dinner on June 9, the Wicker Park Harold's served me white bread with my half dark. One another note, this Harolds, unlike many others, offers moist towelettes to clean your hands with after eating. This was very convenient for those of us whose steering wheels carry a permanent scent of hot sauce. I'd like to see a Harold's on the north shore around Wilmette or Evanston. A quaint storefront location along the lake around Northwestern would be fantastic. Thanks for reading.
oh please, wheat bread is the least of the indignities we true Harold's lovers suffer.... What is this crap which cardpaper boxes and the chicken stacked in the wrong direction...
Harold's should be served on chinette places with a slice of foil, 2 slices of bread, a pile of fries, and then chicken and sauces.... in THAT order only... How else do you make a french fry sandwich with all the dripping goodness of Harold's ?
The one on Wabash doesn't have the glass either which I feel takes away from the true experience. Haven't seen wheat bread though. I think the one on Wabash has bigger problems though, like cleanliness.
p.s. The comment about the media trying to make the black community look like a war zone is kind of out of place...we're talking about a chicken restaurant and you have to bring this shit up.
They have Harolds in Dallas texas too. I just need them to venture out to the east coast NY to be specefic...#uck a Kenndys Fried Chicken(fake KFC)LOL....I rember when i forst moved to NYC I asked for mild sauce and they were like what...I was so upset....I MISS YOU CHI_CITY
Just ate a 1/2 dark at the Wicker Park store. Very nice lady working the counter. The placement of the chicken, fries & bread were in the right order. (ugh). No wheat bread to be seen.
I have gone to the location in Wicker Park (which its on Milwaukee). That place was great just like all the locations. Now just like one person said on here, "Who says that you can't get stuck up or robbed in wicker park" Well guess what I am a example. They broke into my girl's car and stole everything in that peace. It doesn't matter where the heck you are in the Chi...there are the bad and the good!! I feel more safe in the city than in the suburbs.... Harold's keep up the good work...how about setting a location out where I work Glendale Hts!!!! Yummy!!
There is one by Loyola, on 6952 N Clark , i think its #42, It's just as great as the rest, they have white bread, The difference, no bullet proof glass, they close at 10:30p
The love of Harold's Chicken has spread far and wide. This is a place for Harold's stories, poetry, photographs (ultimately) and expressions of what "12 minutes" means to you.

Actually it's in Rogers Park near Morse and Clark. Not Wicker Park... ; )
