Chicago Reader on Harold's

For those of you who (like me) can't pick up a copy of the Chicago Reader, click here to read their recent pieces on Harold's. Great history and a mathematical system for determining which store is the best.

In this particular hoity toity review, they say in the second paragraph that on 47th and Greenwood, they opened the first Harold's.

I'm in Colorado right now and BOY do I wish I had a dark half, hot, mild and pepper, extra hot.

I just watched the Color of Money for the first time and almost fell out of my chair. Harold's makes several appearances in the background. I had to jump up and pause and rewind on both occasions, which drove my roommates crazy.

It appears briefly at 50:06 into the movie, and then for a longer shot at 1:34:23 (roughly). The second one would make for a good screenshot to post here, as it shows Paul Newman standing in front of a Harold's.

Mmmm, now I need my fix: half regular, hot sauce, salt and pepper.

I know this is off topic, but I couldn't figure out how to post generally - sorry, I'm computer challenged I guess. Has anyone noticed a change in Harold's hot sauce? They use a sauce that's made here in NOLA from a place that was basically wiped from the map and had to relocate. I'm wondering if they had to change the sauce.

Okay, I am seriously craving Harold's at this point after reading so much of this blog. Since I do not see getting Harold's for at least another six months when I can get back to Chicago -- for the first time in six years-- does anybody know what brand of barbeque sauce that Harold's in Hyde Park used? I am so desperate I might pay for this info!!

That's odd. I grew up in the Washington Park area. And the Harold's that use to be on 63rd and King Drive had "Harold Chicken Shack #1" (as oppose to #22, #45, etc.). I always thought it was that one (As far as being the first one built).

I would love Harold's online or any way I could get it, but unfortunetly I live in Minnesota. I miss Harold soooo much everytime I get to the Chicago area I head to Harold's, first store I could fine, and they are hard for us to fine, that is why I came to this site today because I will be there in the morning. They need to post every location here it they have I will fine it. Going to the Bellwood area. I plan to bring back enough to last for a week, I freeze it I buy the qizzerds :) and my husband get's the chicken and I eat his also. For those who live in the area online can be a good thing but you may have folk ordering and not picking up the purchase, so that may be something to think about. You may have to only put that in certain area's like you stated. I personally would not. And shorten this character listing 300 words are hard to come up with if you are only asking a small question like me. So if you can tell me where to fine a store close to the area that I will be in it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I have to think that that last person meant to say that he (she?) CAN'T live without it, not that he (she?) can live without it.

The first Harold's is supposed to be on the corner of 63rd and King Drive (across from Walgreens).

I personally think the best Harolds is on 87th & Dan Ryan. I live in Atlanta now, and when I come back home to visit thats all I eat every single day seems like. I am considering openning up a location around Atlanta sometime within the next 2 years. There was one already here, but it burned down.
